The Dorset police arrested a suspect after a vehicle was reported stolen on Wednesday, 6 December, in the Melkrivier area near Vaalwater.

According to WO Petrus Lefoka of the police at Vaalwater, the owner, who wants to stay anonymous, does not live on the farm where the vehicle was stolen. “Tracks were seen by the neighbours and after they inves-tigated, it was discovered that the garage was broken open and the vehicle was gone.”

According to Ruan Fourie, head of the CPF Melkrivier/Dorset area, the vehicle was seen and reported by Estelle Niewenhuysen, an alert community member.

The Waterberg Security Initiative was dispatched to assist until the police arrived and arrested one sus-pect.

“This was excellent work between the community and the police,” said Lefoka.

“After WhatsApp messages were sent, it took about three hours to reco-ver the stolen vehicle.”
